The fragmentation of digital life
In her latest Citation
Needed newsletter, Molly White clearly describes how our digital
lives are fragmented across multiple platforms.
In this post, Molly
also explains the POSSE approach (which I will not go into today).
Being online requires a strategy, and we need to spend time staying in
touch with our connections spread across multiple social networks.
That's counterintuitive, because Facebook, for example, was created to
keep in touch with your classmates. 🙄
But big platforms are businesses, and their business is to make money. Creating walled gardens helps them keep you on that platform. So far they haven't allowed you to chat with your friend on X if you're on Instagram.
Maybe something will change in the future with the introduction of ActivityPub, but for now, we'll have to deal with our digitally fragmented lives.
